Teens, Vitamin D and Risk Factors

No other vitamin has gotten as much press as vitamin D in the past 5 years. Most of the vitamin D literature however has focused on the adult and older adult population. A recent study presented at the American Heart Association scientific meeting has now shown that teens with low levels of vitamin D are at greater risk of high blood pressure, high blood sugar and metabolic syndrome.

Do Your Kids Really Need Vitamin Pills?

A new study (published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine) suggests that many American kids are taking vitamin pills which they don’t need.

The children who would most benefit from dietary supplements – unhealthy kids with poor eating habits – typically aren’t taking them. Yet active, healthy kids (especially those from high-income families) are. The study looked at data from 10,828 kids, covering 1999-2004.
